Currently in the FHF constitution:
9.2.1.4 – A player signed to any type of contract will return to a team that had previously owned that player in the previous fifteen months.
I agree with the purpose of this clause, which is to stop the 'lending' of players. Example: I deal Weber to Sandpoint so he can go on a playoff run. He then deals him back to me in the off season, as was agreed to prior to the original deal. This should unarguably not be allowed.
If I recall correctly, it was also put in place to stop buddies from helping each other out to ice a legal roster if they were new to the league. (We now have 20 solid GMs in this league so I'm thinking this reason is obsolete.)
What I would like to see is that the 15 months period be shortened to 10 months. To be honest, I have a personal interest here as I am looking to make some deals, some for players that have been on my roster within the last 15 months. With these deals, there is no connection at all to the previous deals in which I traded away these players and that fact makes it frustrating that I can't deal back for them.
I believe that there needs to be something in place to prevent friends from helping each otehr out by lending studs or helping one another get under the cap while another trade is worked. But I think 15 months is excessive. My revamp looks like this:
1. A player CANNOT be dealt back to his original team under any circumstances within 10 months.
2. After 10 months and up to 15 months, a player CAN be dealt back to his original team, but none of the other assets that were involved in the previous deal can be included.
For example: I deal Weber to Sandpoint for Seguin and Hedman. 10 months pass and I want to reacquire Weber. Neither Seguin nor Hedman can be included going back to Sandpoint. ALSO, if Sandpoint wants Seguin back, neither Hedman or Weber can be in the deal.
This counts for picks and prospects too. Even 5th rounders.
3. After 15 months, the record of the original deal is disregarded in any subsequent deal. In other words, relating to the example, I can deal Seguin and Hedman back to Darryl for Weber.
I'm looking to create a bit more flexibility in dealing in our league. I think my idea still amply prevents the 'buddy system', but also loosens the shackles on deals. Especially when a lot of GMs f'ed their cap after last night!!!
What are your thoughts?
