I think we have to be real careful here. The RFA contract isn't meant to be a big payday for the player. That is what the UFA contract is for. The RFA contract IMO is to give guys a chance to "steal" a player away by OVERPAYING more than the guy is really worth. It is a way to bring up a players wage but 99% of the time the player should stay with the team that owns him unless they are looking to dump him. If we lower compensation by too much then we won't really be emulating the NHL very well. How many guys change hands in the NHL from RFA offer sheets? Not many.
